M&T Exec Heads to Savarino

Gregory Michalek, a long-time M&T Bank executive, has left that company to become president and part owner of Savarino Construction Corp.

Michalek had been at M&T Bank for 21 years, most recently serving as administrative vice president/group manager for its
Western New York region commercial real estate financing unit. Michalek also headed up M&T's affordable housing financing arm.

Michalek will officially join Savarino Construction on Feb. 11.

Savarino Construction was formed in 2001 by developer Sam Savarino, who remains majority owner and chief executive officer.

The company has worked on a number of high-profile projects around the region including the Artspace project in downtown Buffalo, the $40 million A.D. Price apartments project, also in Buffalo, the $80 million Center Court apartments in Niagara Falls and D'Youville College's $25 million new academic center.

Savarino Construction has 30 employees and is headquartered in Buffalo's Cobblestone District.
