D'Youville College plans to begin building a $20 million academic center to its West Side campus this spring.

Construction of the six-story, 93,000 square foot academic building will start in May on the corner of Connecticut and Fargo Streets, the site of a college parking lot.

Designed by Cannon Design of Grand Island, the structure will house classrooms, laboratories, student service, faculty and college operation offices, conference rooms. It will include facilities for a planned future pharmacy program. Buffalo-based Savarino Cos. will serve as project manager.

Parking that will be displaced by the new facility will move to college lots on Connecticut and West Avenue adjacent to the college.

With nearly 3,000 full- and part-time students D'Youville is the eighth-largest college in the Buffalo Area, according to Business First of Buffalo research.
