Savarino Low Bidder for UB's EOC

Business First of Buffalo

The Savarino Co.LLC, one of the region's largest general contractors and developers, has been awarded the contract to build the University of Buffalo's new Educational Opportunity Center in downtown Buffalo.

Savarino was the lowest of 10 bidders. The Buffalo-based company submitted a bid of $17.688 million. The highest bid, from Manning Squires & Henning of Batavia, was for $19.894 million, according to the State University Construction Fund documents. The bids were opened on May 20.

Savarino's bid, however, is still subject to be included in the stalled New York state budget. It won't be formally awarded until the state budget is passed.

UB's EOC center, a 68,000-square-foot building, will be located just off of Goodell Street and adjacent to a former M. Wile plant that UB acquired two years ago as part of its UB 2020 plan.

Construction could start by late September, pending state budget approval.

The current site is located on Washington Street.
