Savarino Lands YMCA Project

Business First of Buffalo

7/9/2010

Savarino Cos. has been selected by the YMCA of Buffalo-Niagara as construction manager for its new Northtowns Family Branch in Williamsville.

The $19 million facility will feature three gyms, two pools, a children's adventure area, workout facilities and a suspended indoor running track.

Pre-construction services will begin immediately, with a construction start scheduled for spring of 2011 and completion slated for November, 2012. Bammel Architects PLLC is the project architect.

The 84,000-square-foot facility, to be located on Tech Drive near Main Street adjacent to the campus of Erie Community College, replaces an aging 26,000-square-foot branch down the road in Snyder. The new branch will house similar programs and services to the YMCA's Southtowns Branch, a 68,000-square-foot mega facility opened in 2003.

The YMCA has already invested $1.5 million in the project, including about $900,000 to purchase the 14-acre site last year, as well as permit and design work.
