East Side Residence May House More Vets

A house on Buffalo's east side that is used by homeless veterans may be expanded to accommodate more residents.

Altamont Homes, a Veteran's Administration-funded agency, is seeking Buffalo Planning Board approval to convert the third floor of a house at 30 Wyoming Street into an expanded residence for homeless veterans. The $500,000 plan calls for 10 rooms, one bathroom and six dormers to be built out on the expanded third floor.

The Planning Board will get its first look at the project when it meets on Aug. 17.

Sam Savarino, President of Savarino Cos., which handling the build-out, said the home's roof will be raised to make room for the expansion. the work should take a few months to complete.

"It's a fairly straight forward project," Savarino said.

Silvestri Architects has been retained to handle the design work.
